Federica, an elderly woman, sits with her suitcases and a red fish waiting at the door of her humble home in the middle of the sand. She remembers how her life changed when the sand swallowed up the sea right there in front of her house, taking all the fishermen with it, including her husband.
In a remote coastal village transformed into a sandy beach, Federica, an elderly woman, waits with a suitcase and a red fish at the door of her humble home. As the sand stretches out to the horizon, she remembers the day the sea disappeared in front of her house, taking with it the fishermen, including Abelardo, her husband. Desperate, the women of the village discover an unusual means of communication with the men trapped under the sand: a tube that allows them to hear and speak to them. However, the connection brings more conflict than comfort. Jealousy, reproaches and misunderstandings generate tensions that slowly crumble hope. One by one, the women leave the place, while the men below disappear, leaving Federica alone with her unwavering faith that Abelardo will return. One day, when drawing water from the well, Federica finds a red fish and recognizes it: it is Abelardo, transformed into a creature that only she can love and care for. For years, she keeps him as her only companion, but when the day comes to leave the empty town, Federica makes a final decision that challenges love, memory and abandonment. "I would recognize you in the eyes of a fish," she tells him before throwing him into the toilet, thus closing a chapter as surreal as it is melancholic.
